STORY 005 — THE UNSENT LETTER
The Story
She had rehearsed the conversation for years.
In the shower.
Driving alone.
Lying awake at two in the morning.
Every version ended differently.
One night she stopped rehearsing.
She sat at the table, lit a candle and began writing.
At first the words came carefully.
Then honestly.
She wrote about the hurt.
The misunderstanding.
What she wished she had said.
What she wished she had heard.
She wrote until there was nothing left to explain.
Then she folded the letter.
She didn't address an envelope.
She didn't mail it.
She simply placed it in the drawer.
Something surprising happened.
She felt lighter.
For years, she believed closure required another person's participation.
An apology.
An explanation.
A final conversation.
But sometimes closure happens quietly.
Sometimes you say everything you needed to say even when nobody else hears it.
The letter remained in the drawer.
The weight did not remain with her.
Chronicle Reflection
Not every letter needs to be delivered for its words to set you free.
